The Shellharbour City Council is the owner and operator of the airport. It is situated near Albion Park Rail, where the princes highway and Illawarra highway converge. The airport may be reached by car in 80 minutes from Sydney airport and in 60 minutes from the southern suburbs of Sydney. The historical aircraft restoration society (HARS) and several tourism-related businesses are based out of the airport. Shellharbour airport is not currently directly served by any public transport.
